Gallery: Leading the Charge trip reaches ‘halfway’

The Leading the Charge tour of a group of electric vehicles has reached ‘halfway’ – displaying cars today, and over this weekend, in Wellington.

The group, which includes Teslas, a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, a BMW i3, and Nissan Leafs joining for small sections, left Cape Reinga last week headed for Bluff.

The group featured on TVNZ’s Breakfast show this morning, with cars on display from 11am-1pm in Wellington’s City Square.

Today is the first time the Renault Zoe will be on display to the public in New Zealand, one of the first two officially imported into the country rushed down from Auckland for the event.

Mayor Celia Wade-Brown is looking forward to welcoming the electric fleet to Civic Square today at 11.30am.

“Wellingtonians are smart people, enjoying a wide range of transport choices. Cconverting our petrol and diesel vehicles to electric we can slash our CO2 emissions in the city by 21%, and meaningfully reduce climate change. Electric vehicles are responsive, quieter and less malodorous too.”
