Genesis solar farm and Huntly battery on track
Genesis Energy says its 63MW Lauriston solar farm construction has begun with first generation expected in FY25 H1, while its 400MW x 2h battery for Huntly stage one work (100MW x 2h) continues with a mid-year target likely.
Energy security remains critical for New Zealand during the energy transition, says Genesis chief executive Malcolm Johns (formerly at Christchurch Airport) in an NZX report.
The report doesn’t mention EVs but indicates that “biomass” is being considered as an alternate fuel for electricity generation and is “more carbon efficient than coal”.
