Goscoot is Horwin’s NZ electric two-wheeler dealer
Electric motorcycle and electric scooter manufacturer Horwin makes its New Zealand debut, with Goscoot its distributor and six dealerships being established across the country, plus more to come.
Former MG New Zealand country manager Anthony MacLean founded Goscoot as part of his Boost Auto automotive consultancy business, aiming to bring micromobility to the masses.
MacLean says the two-wheel market has undergone a transformation during the past five years with the introduction of Lime and Neuron shared e-scooters, and the rapid proliferation of e-bikes.
New Zealand is gearing up to make huge grounds in the micromobility space, with market revenue said to grow rapidly from $9.5 million last year to $2.4 billion by 2030.
“Electric has changed how we power two wheels and at the same time petrol prices have risen to an all-time high,” MacLean adds.
Horwin scooters have been designed for the European market with its larger and heavier riders than the Chinese, MacLean explains.
Goscoot will first offer the EK range, comprising four models, two consumer models and two fleet models, that meet the requirements of the moped classification and motorcycle class scooters (125cc equivalent).
While electric cars are much cheaper to fuel than internal combustion engine (ICE) cars (around 15% of the fuel cost), small capacity electric scooters are even more so, by a dramatic margin, says MacLean.
“By removing the weight of the vehicle around the driver, an electric scooter costs only 10% of the cost of an equivalent electric car in electricity usage.
“This means that in comparison, for the cost of a flat white ($4.50) an ICE car driver might get from Auckland to Manukau, but an electric Horwin rider could get from Auckland to Wellington.”
The ride-on scooters will be sold online and through appointed dealerships, but can only be collected from and registered by a local dealer.
