GWM has confirmed final specifications for the Tank 300 Hi4-T plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), following the earlier announcement of competitive pricing for the off-road SUV.

The Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV will be offered in two variants when it arrives in New Zealand dealerships in early April 2026. The Lux is priced at $63,990 plus on-road costs, while the Ultra sits at $68,990 plus on-road costs.

Both variants feature a ladder-frame chassis and advanced four-wheel-drive system, positioning the Tank 300 as what GWM describes as “a true off-road SUV with everyday usability.”

Technical specifications

The Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver 300kW of combined power and 750Nm of torque. The petrol engine alone produces 180kW and 380Nm, while the electric motor contributes 120kW and 400Nm.

Power is delivered through a nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission to a part-time four-wheel-drive system with high and low range options. The system includes front and rear differential locks on the Ultra variant, with the Lux featuring rear differential lock only.

The 37.11kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery provides an electric-only range of 115km under NEDC testing, with a combined range of 955km. Fuel consumption is rated at 1.9L/100km in combined driving, rising to 8.3L/100km when the battery is depleted.

DC fast charging at 50kW can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in 24 minutes, while AC charging takes 6.5 hours from 15% to 100%. The vehicle also features vehicle-to-load capability with up to 6kW discharge capacity.

Equipment and capability

Both variants include comprehensive off-road hardware including tank turn assist, crawl control, and multiple terrain modes. Towing capacity is rated at 3000kg with trailer brakes, while payload capacity reaches 610kg.

The Lux variant features leather-accented seats, dual-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a comprehensive safety suite including seven airbags and advanced driver assistance systems.

The Ultra adds heated and cooled front seats with massage function, Nappa leather trim, heated steering wheel, and enhanced ambient lighting with 64 colour options.

Standard safety equipment across both variants includes autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and traffic jam assist.
