Hino to trial hydrogen trucks at California ports

Hino USA has been awarded a grant to support the demonstration of hydrogen fuel cell trucks in real world operations in California ports.
The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO) funding is a Japanese governmental agency grant and supports improved air quality through zero-emission truck technology with a focus on port operations.
The initiative will run through to March 2026 in collaboration with Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Toyota Tsusho America, Mitsui E&S Machinery, Paceco Coro and Hino.
The team plans to demonstrate zero-emission operation generated by hydrogen power units in daily drayage operations in and around the ports.
Hino will provide several of its prototype heavy fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV), recently revealed at the ACT Expo in August last year.
Monitoring and analysis of the operational and maintenance data will also be part of the grant programme.
Hino says the project is part of its ‘Challenge 2025’ strategy which aims to lower the company’s global emissions footprint.
