Human drivers’ jobs safe: Lyft

There’s no doubt driverless cars are on the way.

But an executive from ride-sharing company Lyft says that doesn’t mean human drivers will be out of a job.

“Given how much we plan to grow as a company, the drivers that we have on our platform today, that number is never going down,” Lyft vice president of product Tali Rapaport told Yahoo Finance.

She suggests in the future one Lyft driver may help to remotely operate several cars or offer “value-added services,” like offering assistance to young, older or special needs passengers

Lyft is tipped to expand beyond the United States, potentially into Canada by the end of the year and then Australia and New Zealand after that.

Last month it also announced a new partnership with Ford Motor to develop and test self-driving vehicles and technology.
