Hyundai Ioniq 5 N world premiere
Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N first high-performance electric model had its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England.
The EV represents N brand’s electrification future and a new way for high-performance enthusiasts to electrify their passion for driving on the road and track, says Hyundai, adding the Ioniq 5 N will launch in New Zealand next year with pricing, range and some other details announced nearer the time.
Vehicle specifications and features may vary depending on the country or region and are subject to change without notice, says Hyundai.
Estimates released so far include 166kW power for the front motors and 282kW for the rear, a combined “N Grin Boost” output of 478kW from the 84kWh battery, 350kW charging speed delivering 10% to 80% charge in 18 minutes, and a 269km/h top speed.
The Ioniq 5 N has vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, regenerative braking, a zero to 100km/h sprint time of 3.4 seconds (N Grin Boost), 10 exterior colour options, and Pirelli P-Zero 275/35R21 tyres on 21-inch aluminium wheels.
Body and chassis reinforcements provide higher torsional rigidity and direct steering feel, enabling rally-inspired dual-motor AWD cornering, while thermal management helps racetrack capability, and “N e-shift” and “N Active Sound plus” deliver the feeling and sounds of driving high-performance internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, Hyundai explains.
Performance features also include “N Battery Preconditioning, N Race, N Pedal, N Brake Regen, N Drift Optimiser, N Torque Distribution, N Launch Control, N Grin Boost, N Active Sound +, N e-shift, N Road and Sense and Track SOC”, the brand adds.
The Ioniq 5 N is 4715mm wide, 1940mm high, has a 3000mm wheelbase.
“Ioniq 5 N was developed to take driving fun to a new level by utilising the latest technologies available – regardless of petrol, electric or hydrogen,” says Hyundai Motor Company N Brand and Motorsport head and vice president Till Wartenberg.
Its centre console is optimised for track driving with knee pads and shin support as well as a sliding armrest.
For everyday use it also offers a C-type USB, wireless charger and cupholders.
The N seats have reinforced bolsters which firmly support the upper and lower body to maintain a stable driving posture at all times, the N bucket seats positioned about 20mm lower compared to the basic specification, designed for customers who pursue high-performance drivability.
Sustainable materials are applied throughout the Ioniq 5 N.
“Hyundai N spearheads the technological leadership of Hyundai Motor Company,” says Hyundai Motor Company president and chief executive Jaehoon Chang.
“Key developments around this vehicle will further strengthen the competitiveness of all Hyundai models going forward. This is why N brand exists.
