The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy all-electric race car made its global debut in Berlin with Formula E founder and chief executive officer Alejandro Agag behind the wheel.

The world’s first fully electric production based international race series starts December in Hong Kong with the race calendar revealed later this year.

Agag put the car through its paces, completing five laps of the Tempelhof circuit.

The car also provided a glimpse of the future of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship to a global audience.

“The eTrophy car feels great – it looks like a production road vehicle with the performance of a race car,” Agag says. “This series is all about bringing new innovative technology to a wider audience, and the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy is a perfect platform to do this alongside Formula E.

“I’ve been a strong supporter of Jaguar since they joined the ABB FIA Formula E Championship and it’s been exciting to help shape the future of the sport alongside them. I look forward to seeing more of these cars line-up on the grid next season.”

Final grid spaces for the inaugural Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Championship are now being secured.

It will be the official support series for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in 2018/19.

Up to 20 Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy cars will line up on the streets of cities such as Hong Kong, Rome, Paris and New York.

An ‘Arrive and Drive’ package is offered for drivers.

All of the vehicles will be designed, engineered and built by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO). The package includes professional technical support from race car preparation to data engineering, global logistics for vehicles, spare parts and equipment.

“As a business we are committed to electrification and the future of battery electric vehicles,” Jaguar Racing chairman Gerd Mauser says.

“We have already transferred key learnings from our involvement in Formula E into the development of our future road cars, and no doubt the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy will only further enhance this learning and development.”
