Jaguar Type 01 prototypes test at Monaco circuit

Jaguar has showcased prototypes of its upcoming Type 01 luxury four-door GT on the Monaco circuit ahead of the Formula E race weekend, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s transition to an all-electric future.
The prototypes completed laps of the famous street circuit on 16 May, featuring a distinctive camouflage wrap that reveals the dramatic silhouette of Jaguar’s first model in its new electric era. The wrap incorporates the brand’s signature strikethrough motif alongside straight and circular monolithic strokes in vibrant colours.
Formula E technology enhances road car development
The Type 01 development programme has directly benefited from technology proven by Jaguar TCS Racing, the brand’s Formula E team that secured a World Championship victory in 2024.
“To achieve our vision for Type 01, we not only harnessed our Formula E know-how but also embedded the competition mindset of Jaguar TCS Racing in our engineering teams,” says Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar.
“This helped us develop innovative solutions for our luxury four-door GT that drives like no other electric car.”
The road car incorporates all-wheel drive control software and fast-switching silicon carbide-powered inverters developed for the racing programme. Technology transfer also extends to regenerative braking systems, range optimisation and fast-charging capability.
Type naming returns with electric focus

The Type 01 name continues Jaguar’s historic naming convention, first used on the Le Mans-winning C-type in 1951 and later applied to road cars including the E-type and F-TYPE.
In the new designation, the ‘0’ represents electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, while ‘1’ denotes its status as the first Jaguar of a new era. The vehicle is being designed, developed and built in the UK.
The Type 01 name appears on the strikethrough motif where the bonnet meets the windscreen, forming part of what Jaguar describes as bold linear graphics that will be a signature of future models.
Jaguar plans to reveal the Type 01 later this year, positioning it as the foundation for future models with what the company calls “exuberant modernist design, pioneering technology and instinctive driving dynamics.”
The luxury four-door GT represents Jaguar’s complete transition to electric vehicles, combining what the brand describes as “deep reserves of power” with “refined comfort” in a single package.
