Kiwi company reveals groundbreaking Leaf battery replacement
Christchurch-based EVs Enhanced has released a video detailing a new trio of Nissan Leaf battery replacements.
The ’16 Blade’ system comes in three different versions, one aimed at all-round use, one for range and one for outright performance.
The ‘Green’ or all-around battery, an LFP formulation unit, is expected to the the first released. Details though, are yet to be confirmed – either capacity or pricing.
All three use a bespoke battery management system and feature active cooling – a controversial omission from all factory-Leaf batteries.

Very exciting news. With the influence of a few colleagues at my workplace (namely the anaesthetists I work with) I brought my first leaf and took a few risks (just a humble nurse with a fairly limited budget) in the hope that this technology would be around soon. I brought a 2017 30kwh leaf with a fairly questionable SOH of 67%. It was tidy had a few mod cons that suited me. It certainly serves my need to get me to work and back and the occasional trip to Thames. I realise with that SOH my battery has it limitations but will serve me for the next few years. I look forward to following your team’s progress!!!
Very interested. We have a 2011 leaf. Can do about 75 kms on a charge and love the vehicle but would like to go further than that at times. Great what you are doing cheers would appreciate any updates. Cheers

Hi there. I just watched your video and I wanted to let you know my reaction to it.
I am very excited about what I saw in the video. We purchased a 2013 Gen 2 Japanese Leaf a few years ago. We got the low end model because it was our first EV and we wanted to spend the least amount of money to figure out what our “pain points” would be. Ultimately, we thought our plan would be to purchase a new vehicle in the near future, but the possibility of getting a significantly improved battery alters that plan.
We live in a sunny rural area and are completely off-grid solar. With a 5kW system, we are able to do quite a lot of charging at home. In summer, we can usually do 10kWh/day, which covers a lot of our needs. During winter or less sunny periods, we are reliant on the fast charger in town. Unfortunately, it takes between 10 and 15% of our current battery to drive in to town to charge so using the charger represents a significant waste of energy if we are only going in to town to charge up.
A larger battery would very much improve our situation. Because we are rural we have longer distances to cover than most urban drivers so having an 80% SOH 24kWh battery is quite limiting for us. Similarly, a larger battery means that we wouldn’t have to drive in to town just to charge because we are usually in town at least once/week anyway and charging could be accomplished during those times.
Overall, I really don’t want to replace our leaf, but our current configuration is very limiting for us because of the factors that I’ve outlined above. If you guys offered the 75 kWh blue battery replacement I would probably jump on it with my only limiting factor being cost. If it was under $20k, I’d probably jump on it right away. Between $20k and $30k would require some saving, planning and logistics on my part, but I would try to make it happen.

this looks a great outlook & as a leaf 30kw now down to 170 kms from the 200 it is a way to go as i like the leaf & a new battery pack even if it costs $25,000 or thereabouts is a plan 4 the future, so put me on the list.

I was also looking at the Yesa battery HK 40kWh module on Alibaba for under $10000.00 USD. plus shipping. I have no way to vet the quality. They do not make a 60kWh. You might have similar time zones to theirs. I am GMT-6.Eastern timeUSA

As an owner of a 2014 Leaf, one of the first (Christchurch) NZ new Leaf’s, we are second owners and that’s what the proud previous owners informed us, I haven’t validated this, anyways, we’d be very keen to upgrade to the 16 blade Green.
Hopefully you guys can key into some Jacinda bucks to help with your R&D.
