Leapmotor B10 Ultra Hybrid EV arrives in NZ from $39,990

Leapmotor has confirmed the New Zealand launch of its B10 SUV Ultra Hybrid EV, with the range-extender model set to arrive in dealerships in July 2026. Pricing starts from $39,990 plus on-road costs for the Life trim, with the Design variant priced from $44,990 plus on-road costs.
The announcement follows the introduction of the fully electric B10 SUV battery electric vehicle (BEV) in late 2025 and expands the brand’s local line-up into the extended-range segment. Auto Distributors New Zealand distributes the Leapmotor brand locally.
Electric-first architecture
The B10 SUV Ultra Hybrid EV uses what Leapmotor describes as an “Ultra Hybrid EV” architecture, which differs from conventional plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) systems. The rear wheels are driven solely by the electric motor at all times, while a compact 1.5-litre petrol engine acts exclusively as a generator — it has no mechanical connection to the wheels and exists only to produce electricity and recharge the battery when required.
The 18.8kWh battery delivers 86km of electric range on the WLTP cycle, with a combined range of 900km (WLTP). Brian Carr, General Manager of Leapmotor New Zealand, says the system is designed to remove range anxiety without compromising the electric driving feel.
“Key to the B10 SUV Ultra Hybrid EV success is Leapmotor’s commitment to delivering cutting edge technology and value,” Carr says. “New Zealand customers benefit from experiencing the pure electric drive feel plus lack of range anxiety with an 18.8kWh battery offering 86 km range (WLTP) and a combined range of 900 km (WLTP).”
Intelligent energy modes
Drivers can select from four energy modes — EV+, EV, Fuel, and Power+ — to manage efficiency and performance across different driving scenarios. The two pure electric modes, EV+ and EV, keep the petrol generator switched off entirely, making them suited to urban commuting and daily use.
For longer trips, Fuel mode prioritises the petrol generator to preserve battery charge for later use, such as when entering city centres. Power+ mode combines full electric motor output with the generator’s capacity, providing maximum performance for overtaking or steep gradients.
Technology and connectivity
The cabin is built around LEAP OS 4.0 Plus, running on a Qualcomm 8155 chipset, and centred on a 14.6-inch 2.5K high-definition touchscreen. A 12-speaker premium audio system is fitted as standard, and the vehicle supports over
