Mazda confirms CX-6e electric SUV specifications for NZ
Mazda New Zealand has confirmed local specifications for the CX-6e electric SUV ahead of its launch later this year, with the battery-electric model arriving in a single high-specification Takami trim level.
The strategy mirrors Mazda’s approach with the related 6e sedan, which is due to arrive in New Zealand showrooms ahead of the SUV. Both models will join the new third-generation CX-5 in the local Mazda lineup.

The CX-6e and 6e sedan share the same underpinnings and battery pack, with both models using a 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The SUV delivers a claimed WLTP driving range of 468km, compared to 560km for the lower-slung sedan, with the difference attributed to the 6e’s more aerodynamic body shape.
Battery and charging specifications
Mazda says the battery supports DC fast charging at up to 195kW, allowing for a 10 to 80 per cent charge in 24 minutes. Power comes from a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 190kW and 290Nm of torque. No all-wheel drive version will be offered locally at launch.
The CX-6e rides on a 2902mm wheelbase, positioning it slightly above the CX-60 in size but below the seven-seat CX-80. Standard equipment includes 21-inch alloy wheels and what Mazda describes as a “Soulful Futuristic Modern” evolution of its Kodo design language.

Digital technology and design features
Key design elements include illuminated front lighting signatures, aerodynamic air ducts integrated into the D-pillars, and digital side mirrors – a first for a production Mazda. The digital mirrors use exterior cameras feeding OLED displays mounted inside the cabin, providing a 30 per cent wider field of view compared to conventional mirrors while improving aerodynamic efficiency.
Inside, the CX-6e features a 26-inch ultra-wide display spanning the dashboard with split functionality for driver and passenger information. The Takami grade also includes a head-up display, full-length glass sunroof, illuminated trim details, and a digital rear-view mirror with a 9-inch display.
Interior and practicality
Boot space measures 468 litres, expanding to 1434 litres with the rear seats folded flat. An 83-litre front storage compartment is located under the bonnet. Two interior finishes will be offered in New Zealand – black Maztex synthetic leather or a black and Oyster White colour combination.
Both the CX-6e and 6e sedan are products of Mazda’s partnership with China’s Changan Automobile. Mazda New Zealand says pricing and full specification details will be announced closer to launch, though expressions of interest are already being accepted through the dealer network.
