Mazda focuses on single top grade for 6e

Mazda Motors of New Zealand will launch the all-new Mazda 6e electric vehicle (EV) in a single, highly equipped Takami grade when it arrives in the second half of 2026.
The electric successor to the Mazda6 nameplate will feature a 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery delivering a combined WLTP range of 560km, paired with a 190kW rear-wheel drive motor producing 290Nm of torque.
The 6e is developed through a joint venture with Chinese firm Changan, who are responsible for the platform and production.

Mazda says the single-specification approach combines “the best elements in terms of range, performance and charging times” for the New Zealand market. The 6e can charge from 10 to 80% in 24 minutes on a 195kW DC charger.
The model launched in Europe during 2025 and represents what Mazda calls “a new approach” featuring modern exterior styling and cabin design focused on the driving experience.
European tuning for local conditions

New Zealand market vehicles will receive specialised technical tuning from Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt, with suspension, steering and braking systems calibrated for European and Australasian driver preferences.
The 6e adopts Mazda’s “Authentic Modern” design concept, featuring a low roofline and short-deck coupe silhouette while maintaining five-door hatchback functionality. Design highlights include frameless doors, a glowing signature wing that illuminates around the grille, and an electronically extendable rear spoiler.
The model rides on 19-inch wheels with an aerodynamic five-spoke design featuring flat black surfaces.
Interior features include a panoramic roof, premium tan Nappa leather with artificial suede cloth seat trim, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, 10.2-inch instrument cluster, and an augmented reality head-up display. The cabin design draws inspiration from the Japanese concept of ‘Ma’, emphasising space and lightness.
Mazda says the 6e offers “strong practicality” with a large luggage compartment, excellent passenger space and an additional front boot.
The Mazda dealer network is now taking expressions of interest for the new model ahead of its spring 2026 launch. Pricing is expected to be announced in the coming months.
