Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV launched

Mercedes-Benz has launched its new EQS SUV in a global digital premiere.

It will be offered to New Zealand customers with arrivals expected in the first half of 2023 and pricing yet to be confirmed.

The third model series with this EV architecture offers plenty of space, comfort and connectivity for up to seven passengers and comes in three variants – the 450+ rear-wheel drive, 450 4matic all-wheel drive and 580 4matic AWD.

These provide up to more than 600km range.

The 450+ offers 265kW of power and 568Nm torque, the 450 4matic 265kW and 800Nm, and the 580 4matic 400kW and 858Nm.

The new EQS SUV shares the long wheelbase (3210 millimetres) with the EQS Saloon but is more than 20 centimetres higher and is said to tackle light terrain with ease, with assets including offroad driving mode.

The second row of seats can be electrically adjusted as standard, and a third row of seats with two additional individual seats and extensive comfort features for all passengers is available as an option.

Up to four golf bags fit in the boot.

Over-the-air updates (OTA) are expanded with the EQS SUV. For example, Trailer Manoeuvring Assist or MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) Augmented Reality Navigation can be activated at a later date.

The chassis of the new EQS SUV has a four-link axle at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear. The “Airmatic” air suspension with continuously adjustable damping ADS+ is standard equipment.

The vehicle level can be raised by several centimetres. In addition to the Dynamic Select modes Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual, the 4matic versions feature Offroad.

Integral Safety, in particular accident safety, apply and it can detect whether rear seats are actually occupied and passengers belted it, the system able to indicate children who may have been overlooked in the rear. In vehicles for Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the reminder is on board as standard.

Numerous infotainment, comfort and vehicle functions are provided, and the MBUX Hyperscreen (special equipment) spans the width of the vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz is accelerating the market launch of its EQ models, says Mercedes-Benz Group AG management board member, development and procurement chief technology officer Markus Schäfer.
