Mercedes-Benz unveils sleek new electric wagon
Mercedes-Benz has revealed its first-ever electric wagon, the CLA Shooting Brake EQ, ahead of its European launch in March 2026.
The new model is the second in the next-generation CLA family and follows the debut of the CLA electric saloon earlier this year. Built on the brand’s Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, the Shooting Brake combines coupe-inspired design with estate-like versatility.
At 455 litres, boot capacity expands to 1290 litres with the rear seats folded, and is joined by a 101-litre illuminated frunk under the bonnet. Roof rails support loads of up to 75kg, while the 1800kg braked towing capacity gives the model genuine load-lugging credentials — still a rarity in the electric wagon segment.
Two variants will be available at launch:
- CLA 250+ Shooting Brake EQ with 200kW/355Nm and up to 761km of WLTP range
- CLA 350 4MATIC Shooting Brake EQ, offering 260kW/525Nm via dual motors and all-wheel drive, and up to 730km of range
Both use an 85kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery and are built on an advanced 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing ultra-rapid DC charging. A 10-minute fast charge can deliver up to 310km of range, while AC charging is supported up to 22kW. A petrol-electric hybrid variant is also expected to follow.
Performance is bolstered by a two-speed rear-axle transmission, enabling strong acceleration and efficient long-distance cruising. Mercedes claims the CLA 250+ can sprint from 0–100km/h in 6.8 seconds, with regenerative braking delivering up to 200kW of energy recuperation under deceleration.
Styling-wise, the Shooting Brake shares its dramatic looks with the CLA saloon, featuring 142 LED stars in the front grille, a panoramic glass roof, and a distinctive LED rear light strip with star detailing.
Inside, the new body and stretched wheelbase offer improved headroom and legroom for all five occupants, bringing more space than its predecessor.
The CLA Shooting Brake is part of Mercedes-Benz’s broader electrification strategy. It will be joined by two all-electric SUVs also built on the MMA platform, continuing the brand’s push into premium EV territory.
