Mercury’s electric Fairlane Evie on show at MOTAT

Mercury’s famous electric 1957 Ford Fairlane Evie is on the main stand at the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) in Auckland until June 30.

It’s part of the Accelerate: Driving New Zealand long-term exhibition covering the past, present and future of our relationship with vehicles.

Few vehicles represent this objective better than Evie, which has pride of place at the show, MOTAT says.

The exhibition features some uniquely Kiwi stories, delves into the search for sustainable fuel alternatives, and breaks down complex technological processes to engage and intrigue all the family.

MOTAT says Accelerate is one for the petrol heads, the tech enthusiasts, history buffs, and future thinkers alike.

Its winter calendar is an intriguing mix of science, technology, creative illuminations and moveable feasts.

There’s a Techweek19 festival, for instance, which includes workshops and events on May 25 and 26.

MOTAT will host five different OMGTech! Rangers Events for up to 400 children aged 5-12, parents and teachers to explore new technology.

Meanwhile, capital works projects continue around the Western Springs museum and visitors will begin to see some of the new interactive spaces unveiled and in use.
