Meridian opens high-capacity EV charging sites in North Canterbury

Meridian Energy has expanded its electric vehicle charging network with the opening of two new high-capacity fast charging sites in North Canterbury.

The new locations in Amberley and Rangiora are designed to improve charging availability for both local drivers and travellers, reducing wait times and increasing access to fast charging infrastructure.

The Amberley site, located at 115 Carters Road at NPD, features four 240kW and six 160kW DC fast charge points, with both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors available.

A second site in Rangiora at 652 Lineside Road, also at NPD, includes six 240kW DC fast charge points with CCS and CHAdeMO connectors.

Meridian says the Amberley location is a key stop for drivers travelling north, while the Rangiora site is aimed at supporting daily EV commuting as well as longer trips outside Christchurch.

The company says the additional high-capacity chargers will allow drivers to top up more quickly and continue their journeys with less waiting time.
