MG 07 wagon spotted testing in China
A wagon version of MG's new 07 has been spied testing in China, with a roof-mounted lidar unit and the sedan's PHEV and EV powertrains expected.
MG is building a wagon version of its new 07, and a camouflaged test car has been spotted on the road in China wearing a roof-mounted lidar unit.
The MG 07 sedan launched in China recently and passed 42,000 locked orders within 20 days. Official renderings of the wagon appeared in late July, when China’s National Intellectual Property Administration published them, and the latest spy shots show it is now in road testing. CarNewsChina expects MG to announce its launch soon.
Sedan front, estate rear
From the front, the wagon looks almost identical to the sedan. The C-shaped twin-layer headlights are unchanged, and the A-pillars and windscreen appear to carry over too.
Further back, the roofline stays high over the load area. Earlier spy shots from late August showed the rear end, with a spoiler, a rear wiper and a full-width tail light bar with vents at each end. Test cars have been seen on both the sedan’s two-tone seven-spoke wheels and a black five-petal design.
The roof-mounted lidar points to the same Momenta driver assistance system offered on the sedan. In lidar-equipped sedans, that brings Momenta’s R7 system with navigation on autopilot and automated parking.
Likely powertrains
MG hasn’t released wagon specifications, but it is expected to follow the sedan’s line-up of an entry plug-in hybrid plus 400-volt and 800-volt electric versions. It’s not yet known whether the wagon will add all-wheel drive; every sedan variant is front-wheel drive.
In the sedan, the plug-in hybrid pairs an 82kW 1.5-litre engine with a 152kW front motor and a 30kWh CATL LFP battery, for 198km of WLTP electric range.
The 400-volt EV has a 176kW motor and a 67kWh semi-solid-state battery from Qingtao, rated at 494km WLTP. The 800-volt version steps up to a 235kW motor and a 91kWh CATL NMC battery, with 684km WLTP.
The sedan measures 4886mm long, 1900mm wide and 1478mm tall, on a 2825mm wheelbase. It uses MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear with adjustable damping.
In China, the MG 07 sedan is priced from 108,900 to 159,900 yuan, which makes it one of the cheapest lidar-equipped new energy vehicles on sale there.
