MG planning ‘Best value BEV in NZ’
New Zealand is set for a flurry of new electric models, particularly SUVs – with Chinese brand MG the next to add a car to the list.
First reported by Stuff.co.nz, the brand has confirmed the MG eZS will be here next year. The eZS is a small SUV, around the size of a Mazda CX-3 or Honda HRV.
The eZS has a range of 335km on the NEDC test system and a 44.5kW lithium-ion battery. It is capable of 50kW DC charging. The front-drive vehicle uses a 110kW motor.

MG is part of the giant SAIC automotive group, which has a range of electrified models on sale in China. The LDV EV80 already on sale here is also one of its products.
MG New Zealand business manager Anthony MacLean says details of the car’s arrival remain thin.
“At this stage, we know it will be next year, but I don’t have any more details at this stage,” MacLean says.
“I think it’s likely that we will offer the best value BEV in NZ – but I can’t speculate publicly on the price, as we haven’t done any pricing studies or negotiations yet. There’s a lot of speculation out there.
” We are very excited about this product,” MacLean says.
On arrival, the eZS is likely to go head-to-head with a proposed new electric SUV from Mahindra, the new Nissan Leaf, the Kia Niro and Hyundai Kona.
