Navistar International in the United States is challenging Tesla, promising more of its own electric trucks on the road by 2025 than the much-hyped Semi.

Navistar chief executive Troy Clarke has taken aim at Elon Musk in an interview with Trucks.com, vowing to put its own electric hauler into action by early 2020, after Tesla said it would begin production next year.

“Customers know us, and they know that when we give them a truck it gives them a guarantee that this truck is going to serve their needs, because we understand how our customers make money,” he says.

Financial advisory firm Stephens Inc. transport analyst Brad Delco says the well-established truck maker would have the resources to support its electric trucks.

“(Navistar) has an established network of dealers nationwide to service the product,” he tells Trucks.com’s Emma Hurt.
