Truck and van rental company NHR Group has added 49 electric commercial vehicles to its nationwide fleet, expanding access to low-emission trucks for businesses and private users.

The Auckland-based firm says the rollout represents one of the first large-scale offerings of electric car licence trucks available for rent in New Zealand, aimed at making EV technology more accessible across a range of industries.

Chief executive Philip Arras says the move is focused on removing barriers to adoption.

“Our focus has always been on providing the right vehicle solutions for our customers.

“Electric commercial vehicles represent part of the future of urban transport and sustainable logistics. By making them available to rent at competitive, like-for-like pricing compared to traditional diesel vehicles, we can remove the financial barriers that often prevent businesses and the general public from accessing more sustainable transport options, Arras says.

Arras says the rental model allows businesses to trial EV technology before committing to longer-term fleet investment.

“Offering electric trucks through rental will allow businesses in sectors such as logistics, infrastructure, construction, and urban delivery, the opportunity to begin conversations about integrating or trialling electric vehicles in their fleets, without the significant upfront cost of ownership.”

The vehicles will be available on flexible terms, ranging from one-day hires to longer-term and multi-year agreements.

NHR says the expansion reflects growing demand for lower-emission transport options as businesses respond to rising fuel costs and sustainability targets.
