Nissan Leaf batteries outlast car?

Nissan Leaf battery packs will easily outlast the life of the vehicle – usually by 10-12 years.
That’s according to a Nissan-Renault executive citing charging and battery degradation data from Nissan on the more than 400,000 Leafs sold globally.
Based on the average life of a car at 10 years, Renault-Nissan Energy Services managing director Francisco Carranza told the Automotive News Europe Congress that put the battery life at 22 years.
“We are going to have to recover those batteries,” he says.
The company is offering Nissan Energy Solar solutions In the United Kingdom, combining solar panels with battery storage and an app-based control system.
In parts of Europe, such as Germany, Denmark and the UK, the Leaf can be grid-connected similar to conventional power plans, providing revenue.

Volkswagen expects battery packs in upcoming ID models to also last “the life of the cars”.
VW says its batteries will keep 70% of their original capacity for eight years or about 160,000km.
That’s close to Nissan’s goal at the original rollout of the Leaf in 2010, expecting the battery to keep 70% or more of its original capacity after 10 years—although its original warranty was also for eight years or around 160,000km, Green Car Reports
says.
Even when battery capacity degrades far lower they’ll be OK for second uses. Nissan research and development staff projected that at 20 years the typical cells might store less than 40% of their original energy capacity, allowing use for larger-scale energy storage.
