No to NZ Post electrics in Wellington

NZ Post’s Paxter electric delivery vehicles have been given approval for use in all of the Wellington-region council areas – except one.

The zero-emission delivery vehicles, which will roll out into Auckland later this year following trials, will not be allowed to be used in the Wellington City Council area.

NZ Post sustainability specialist Sam Bridgeman told the EV Symposium in Wellington yesterday the council had declined permission for the vehicles – to the surprise of attendees.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Wellington mayor Celia Wade-Brown says the city’s footpaths are not wide enough for the Paxters.

“They are quite bulky,” Wade-Brown says. “Many of our footpaths are hugely busy – you think of Lambton Quay – and some of our suburban ones are really quite narrow.”

Brown says she is happy for the vehicles to be driven on the road, with posits getting out to deliver items.
