OCS joins EV charge

Commercial cleaning company OCS will convert 30% of its fleet to electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles over the next three years.

This forms part of the facilities management and commercial cleaning company’s joint private sector commitment – under Air New Zealand and Mercury Energy – to the future of electric vehicles (EVs) in New Zealand.

Air New Zealand chief executive Christopher Luxon says Air New Zealand and OCS already work together on a cabin waste recycling initiative at Auckland Airport and that “it’s great to join forces on this most recent green initiative”.

The initiative sees more than 30 Kiwi organisations collectively committing to convert at least 1450 vehicles on the nation’s roads to electric by 2019.

The commitment is set to boost New Zealand’s current EV fleet by more than 75%, which could remove almost three million kilograms of carbon emissions annually.

OCS currently has over 300 diesel and petrol fleet vehicles on the road.

Managing director Gareth Marriott says the initiative fits with OCS own commitment to sustainability.
