Peugeot has revived the RCZ name for an electric coupé concept with a solid-state battery, a 1000-volt system and up to 600km of range. The RCZ Vision was shown in Paris ahead of the motor show.

The original RCZ coupé was sold from 2009 to 2015. The concept borrows its double-bubble roof, hidden active spoiler and triangular wheel details.

Solid-state battery

The RCZ Vision sits on Stellantis’ new STLA One platform. Its solid-state battery was developed with Factorial Energy, is 110mm thick and runs at 1000 volts. Peugeot quotes 368kW (500hp), up to 600km of range, and a 10 to 80 per cent charge in 10 minutes. It gives energy consumption of 11.5kWh/100km on the WLTP cycle, which it says is still to be confirmed.

It has steer-by-wire, with no mechanical link between the steering and the wheels, and slightly less than one full turn lock to lock. It is also Peugeot’s first car with brake-by-wire.

Steering is through Peugeot’s Hypersquare control, which has four rings for the main functions. Peugeot says the production version of Hypersquare will appear in the next-generation E-208. The concept also previews the next i-Cockpit, with transparent Micro LED displays.

The cabin seats four, with room for two adults in the rear, and the rear seatbacks fold for luggage.

Peugeot calls the RCZ Vision a manifesto for its future models and has not announced a production version.
