Polestar confirms European production of new 7

Polestar has confirmed that its upcoming premium compact SUV, the Polestar 7, will be built in Europe, with production set for the Volvo Cars plant in Košice, Slovakia. The model is scheduled to launch in 2028.
The announcement comes as part of a new memorandum of understanding between Polestar and Volvo Cars, with the latter appointed as development and manufacturing partner for the model. Polestar says the move is in line with its strategy to expand its contract manufacturing footprint and leverage group synergies.
Polestar 7 will be based on architecture sourced from within the wider Geely Holding Group. It will use Volvo’s next-gen components, including advanced cell-to-body battery technology, in-house e-motors, and the latest electronic systems. The vehicle will be adapted to deliver Polestar’s signature driving dynamics and design language.
Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller said: “Working with Volvo Cars to develop and manufacture Polestar 7 in Europe is a unique opportunity that will strengthen our position in our home market. Our strategy of utilising Group architectures gives us access to the latest technologies in a cost-efficient manner.”
Construction of the Volvo Cars Košice plant began in 2023. The site was chosen for its strong logistics links across Europe and proximity to an established supplier base.
