Range Rover Electric wait list begun
A Range Rover Electric waiting list – which includes Kiwis – has been opened by Jaguar Land Rover ahead of pre-orders.
The first EVs are due in New Zealand in June 2025 although the Range Rover Electric is expected to be available next year.
High global demand has led to the wait list being launched, says Range Rover managing director Geraldine Ingham.
She says the original luxury SUV now available as an all-electric model marks a new era for the brand.
“Created in the heart of the United Kingdom, the Range Rover Electric will slot into the range alongside its mild hybrid [MHEV] and plug-in electric hybrid [PHEV] siblings, offering a breadth of options to meet our clients’ needs,” says JLR product engineering executive director Thomas Müller.
Range Rover Electric will deliver performance comparable to a flagship Range Rover V8 and includes all-terrain capability.
Its 800V architecture will allow rapid charging on public networks, while effortless charging, energy partnerships, software-over-the-air updates and intelligent technology to maximise range are expected to be provided.
Physical prototype testing is under way, with global on-road testing from Sweden to Dubai in a wide temperature range after a year of virtual development.
Batteries and electric drive units (EDUs) will be built and assembled at JLR’s new Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, as Range Rover electrifies ahead of its 2039 net-zero carbon ambition.
Specifications and price have yet to be announced.
Range Rover is sold in 121 countries.
