The shroud came off the BYD Shark ute super plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) on the opening day of the Mystery Creek Fieldays on June 12.

BYD New Zealand also displayed the Sea Lion SUV super hybrid, the BYD home battery box and also announced its Green Leasing programme.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Transport Minister Simeon Brown were among the guests for the official unveiling.

BYD New Zealand brand manager Warren Willmot announced that the Shark, a super plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), will boast a remarkable range of up to 840km and an impressive acceleration from zero to 100km/h in just 5.7 seconds.

The Shark will offer a towing capacity of up to 2.5 tonnes and will come with a six-year, 150,000km warranty.

Willmot says final pricing and specifications for the Shark will be available in September, but customers can place a $300 reservation and they will be guaranteed to receive a vehicle from one of the first three shipments to arrive before Christmas.
