Rolls-Royce creates one-off Spectre tribute to beloved dog
Rolls-Royce has unveiled Spectre Bailey, a one-off commission featuring intricate marquetry depicting the commissioning clients’ beloved Labrador-Golden Retriever mix.
The bespoke electric vehicle was created for longstanding United States-based clients through the company’s Private Office New York. The commission showcases the extensive personalisation capabilities of Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke division.
The centrepiece is a lifelike marquetry portrait of Bailey positioned on the waterfall between the rear seats. The composition required more than four months to complete and comprises over 180 pieces of veneer.
“We are lifelong car enthusiasts, yes, but we are also lifelong animal lovers, and our dog Bailey is a cherished member of our family,” the commissioning clients say in a statement.
“When we started our Rolls-Royce Spectre commission, we saw the opportunity to create something beautiful which would remind us of him for decades to come.”
Custom paint and paw print details
Paint specialists at Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood facility developed an iridescent two-tone finish combining colours reserved exclusively for the clients. The main body features Crystal Fusion over Beautiful Bailey, a hue inspired by the dog’s ear fur.
The shoulder coachline includes an exact reproduction of Bailey’s paw print, hand-painted in Rose Gold to match the Spirit of Ecstasy figurine. The same paw print motif appears as marquetry on the passenger dashboard panel and as engravings on the bespoke Rose Gold treadplates.
Intricate marquetry craftsmanship
To capture Bailey’s coat texture and warmth, the artisan explored natural veneers, experimenting with grain direction, tone and texture. Each veneer sheet was selected for its natural hue and pattern without staining or artificial treatment.
Bailey’s tongue alone required four veneers never previously used by Rolls-Royce: Purple Heart, Tulipwood, Louro Faia and Pear. In total, nine veneers representing 22 natural shades were used to create the portrait.
The interior features Moccasin and Crème Light leather with Dark Spice and Casden Tan accents, chosen to reflect Bailey’s fur colours. Wood surfaces use High Gloss Royal Walnut veneer.
Phil Fabre de la Grange, Head of Bespoke at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, says the commission demonstrates how inspiration can come from anywhere.
“For Rolls-Royce, one of the great joys of a Bespoke commission is becoming immersed in the client’s world and the unique story behind their vision,” he says.
“Our team was absolutely delighted to collaborate with our long-standing clients to bring this concept to life in a playful yet timeless manner, reflecting the special place Bailey holds in their hearts.”
The Rolls-Royce Spectre offers a WLTP electric range of 530 kilometres with power consumption of 22.2-23.6 kWh per 100 kilometres.
