Solar carport EV charger

A solar carport electric vehicle charging solution is provided by Megapower for the Caribbean.

Its island of Barbados is reportedly the third highest user of EVS in the world per 1000 people.

Megapower has designed solar carports for both Barbados and across the Caribbean, the carports harnessing the sun’s energy to contribute to the grid as well as to charge any car plugged in directly below them.

Benefits include shaded parking, a visible environmental statement, energy security, cost savings and even the ability to withstand winds up to 209km/h.

A carport at Wildey, Barbados, with 204 photovoltaic panels forming a 54kWP system shows their capabilities and has been a model to follow elsewhere, the company says.

It includes LED lighting.

Megapower, which works on EVs, charging infrastructure and renewable energy projects in the Caribbean, also imported more than 200 EVs.

Jo Edghill and husband Simon Richards are the co-founders of Megapower, pioneering EVs in the Caribbean since 2013.

Edghill parks her BMW i3 in a solar carport and the company also took its offices fully off the grid this year.
