Stellantis reveals new BEV platforms
Stellantis says its new ‘STLA Medium’ vehicle platform is the first of four new electric bases for all future models as it strives to produce up to two million EVs annually.
Its brands include Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Citreon, Dodge, Jeep, Lancia, Opel, Peugeot, Ram and Vauxhall with Stellantis aiming for 100% of European passenger car sales to be battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2030.
The BEVs are expected to have a more than 500km standard range and up to 700km with a “performance pack”.
Stellantis chief executive Carlos Tavares says BEVs are the focus of the new platforms STLA Small, Medium, Large and Frame, beginning with STLA Medium from Europe this year.
All the platforms can accommodate various batteries such as solid-state.
Stellantis’ first European-made affordable EV, the Citroen e-C3, is expected to be launched mid-October, aiming to counter low-cost Chinese brands in Europe.
The company came from the merger of Fiat Chrysler and the PSA Group and reportedly sold about six million vehicles in 2022.
