Techweek’18 includes transport tech

Transport features in Techweek’18 from May 19-27.

All things from artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) which can apply to transport, through to autonomous vehicles and drones, are included in more than 400 events in the annual festival of innovation throughout New Zealand.

Prime minister Jacinda Ardern opens the event on May 21 in Auckland as a hologram in a world first.

“We’re on the cusp of a transport revolution,” says the NZ Transport Agency which hosts an informal panel discussion on the role of technology in the transport sector on May 23.

The NZTA’s work on mobilityOS is about giving customers choice and connecting people to transport options using the tech already in their pockets.

Driverless vehicles are covered in the Christchurch Innovation Expo on May 21, along with cycling sentiment.

Those involved in the 2018 LINZ Virtual Field Trip for Students on May 22-24 also get to travel in a self-driving vehicle like the Ohmio Hop and see how satellite positioning helps.

Events will be hosted in 36 towns and cities, simultaneously in many cases.

The headline AgriTech event “10 Billion Mouths” in Tauranga has attracted an international delegation of investors representing billions of dollars, NZTech chief executive officer Graeme Muller says.

Another headline event, “The Fourth Revolution”, on May 25 in the Tait Technology Centre, Christchurch, introduces the high-tech engineers who are building a better place.
