Tesla celebrates Earth day amidst fire investigation

Tesla celebrated Earth day on Monday 22 April with over one billion people in 193 countries.

Tesla’s owners have driven over 10 billion electric miles, supported by a global network of over 12,800 supercharging stations.

This is equivalent to saving over 283 million litres of petrol and preventing emissions from hundreds of thousands of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Tesla urges everyone to commit to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy and experience a zero-emissions lifestyle.

Energy installations have produced over 13 terawatt-hours of 100% clean energy.

Tesla announces their Earth day celebrations after a video of a Tesla Model S catching fire whilst parked in Shanghai, China went viral.

Autotalk reports a parked Tesla Model S started to emit smoke in an underground garage before bursting into flames, ruining the electric vehicle and five vehicles around it.

“We immediately sent a team on site and we’re supporting local authorities to establish the facts. From what we know now, no one was harmed,” a Tesla China spokesperson said in a statement.

It is not certain what caused the fire, and Tesla declined to comment further when contacted by publications.

There have been at least 14 times Tesla cars have caught on fire since 2013.
