Tesla pushes Roadster reveal back to 15 October over weather

Tesla has postponed the reveal of its next-generation Roadster by two weeks, moving the event from 1 October to 15 October, US time.

The event was due to be held outdoors in Waco, Texas. In a post on X, Tesla said it had been tracking the weather with local meteorologists and, “given the severe conditions predicted & because this event can only be held outdoors”, had decided to reschedule. It said additional details would follow.

The original date would have seen the car revealed at 1.30pm on Friday 2 October in New Zealand. Tesla has not yet given a start time for the new date, so the New Zealand timing will be confirmed once it does.

Tesla has said pricing, specifications and production targets will be announced at the event. New Zealand reservations are already open, with Tesla asking for a total of $73,000 in deposits: $7,000 by credit card, followed by a $66,000 wire transfer within 10 days. The deposit is refundable until a purchase agreement is signed.

The Roadster was first shown as a prototype in November 2017, with production originally promised for 2020.
