Tesla Q3 EV sales up

Tesla-Model-Y-test-June-2022-3

Tesla says it delivered more than 343,000 EVs in the third quarter of this year (July-September) compared with 254,695 April-June deliveries.

That’s out of more than 365,000 vehicles produced, the company adding that as production volumes continue to grow it is becoming increasingly challenging to secure vehicle transportation capacity and at a reasonable cost during these peak logistics weeks.

“Historically, our delivery volumes have skewed towards the end of each quarter due to regional batch building of cars. In Q3, we began transitioning to a more even regional mix of vehicle builds each week, which led to an increase in cars in transit at the end of the quarter. These cars have been ordered and will be delivered to customers upon arrival at their destination.”

Tesla Model 3 and Model Y deliveries were 325,158 in Q3 while Model S and Model X deliveries were 18,672, the company adds.

Sales rose 35% during July-September compared to the second quarter as Giga Shanghai overcame supply chain issues and pandemic restrictions, Tesla adding that high vehicle numbers in transit at the end of the third quarter will count as sales once delivered.

It has delivered about 908,573 of the planned 1.5 million EVs it intended to sell this year.

Q3 financial results will be posted after the market closes on Wednesday, October 19.

Tesla management will hold a live question and answer webcast that day at 4.30pm Central Time (about 10pm on October 20 in New Zealand) to discuss the company’s financial and business results and outlook with a recording available on the website about two hours later.
