Tesla ‘Summon’ mode brings forth bad things

Tesla has cool tricks – it prides itself on them.

But it’s had issue an update for its Knight Ridery ‘Summon’ mode on Model X and Model S.

Summon mode either tells your car to automatically park itself – or come to you, just like Kitt did, albeit at 1.6km/h for a massive 10 metres.

Using its touchscreen, you confirm the car’s direction of travel and hey, presto.

Tech blog Engadget reckons the fix might be reaction to a Utah Model S driver whose shiny Telsa rolled into another vehicle in ‘Summon’ mode. He claimed to have stood in front of the car for a good minute and that it crashed of its own accord.

But Telsa reportedly wrote in a letter that the driver not only deliberately initiated ‘Summon’ but was given a number warnings and messages. It started moving seconds after he exited the driver’s door.

Either way, the darling of the electric car world has sent out a hurried update to the fancy mode, requiring users to confirm the path that the car will take, avoiding obstacles.
