Toshiba develops new EV battery

A new electric vehicle battery that could charge in six minutes with a range of 320km is being developed by Toshiba.

The company’s latest SCiB battery will enhance technology it has already developed.

“Rather than an incremental improvement, this is a game changing advance that will make a significant difference to the range and performance of EVs,” Dr Osamu Hori, director of corporate research and development centre at Toshiba says.

“We will continue to improve the battery’s performance and aim to put the next-generation SCiB [battery] into practical application in fiscal year 2019.”
