Toyota unveils all-electric Highlander with up to 514km range

Toyota has unveiled an all-electric version of its three-row Highlander SUV, with a claimed driving range of up to 514km depending on battery and drivetrain configuration.

Revealed by Toyota North America, the 2027 Highlander EV arrives with seating for up to seven occupants and a fully electric powertrain, marking a significant shift for the nameplate.

Although lower than the current model, the new Highlander is wider and rides on a longer wheelbase, which Toyota says has been used to improve interior space.

Styling cues appear to draw heavily from Toyota’s bZ4X, with full-width LED daytime running lights, pronounced wheel arches and flush door handles contributing to a more squared-off look.

Two battery options will be offered: a 77kWh unit and a larger 95.8kWh pack. Front-wheel-drive models are fitted with the smaller battery, while all-wheel-drive variants can be specified with either.

Toyota claims front-wheel-drive models equipped with the 77kWh battery will deliver up to 461km of range, while all-wheel-drive versions with the same battery are rated at 434km. Opting for all-wheel drive with the larger 95.8kWh battery increases the claimed range to 514km.

Power outputs vary by configuration. Front-wheel-drive models produce 164kW, while all-wheel-drive variants generate either 240kW or 252kW depending on specification.

Charging details are yet to be fully confirmed, but Toyota says the Highlander EV supports 11kW AC charging. Using a DC fast charger, it is claimed the battery can be replenished from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes.

Inside, the Highlander EV features a 14-inch infotainment display paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. With the third row folded flat, Toyota claims more than 1,270 litres of cargo space is available. A panoramic glass roof, said to be the largest in Toyota’s line-up, is also offered.

It remains unclear whether the all-electric Highlander will be offered in markets outside North America, and whether hybrid variants will continue alongside it.
