Transport energy consumption database updated

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) has updated its end use database which allows users to drill down into energy and fuel consumption by road transport and other consumers from 2012 to 2014.

“Users can now carry out more detailed searches, following improvements to our website last year,” says EECA strategic and delivery services general manager Jenny Lackey.

EECA runs the database as part of its role to provide authoritative data, and statistics to support agencies and businesses make informed decisions around energy management.

“This is a tool that will mainly help local authorities, researchers, sector associations and large power users make decisions around energy use and management,” says Lackey.

“You can search across three years instead of one, and by a range of categories including end use, fuel, sector, technology, transport, and building.”

The database draws information from some sources including the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Energy in New Zealand, Statistics New Zealand’s NZ Energy Use Survey, Air New Zealand, Electricity Authority, Covec, Gas Industry Company Limited, KiwiRail, LPG Association and New Zealand Geothermal Association.
