Updated BMW iX confirmed for NZ with longer range
BMW New Zealand has confirmed pricing and specifications for the updated iX electric SUV, ahead of a local launch at the end of 2025.
The range will open with the iX xDrive45 M Sport at $169,900, with first deliveries due in December. BMW says the xDrive45 M Sport will be the sole local variant, replacing the outgoing iX xDrive40 Sport.
BMW has refreshed the styling to bring the iX in line with the brand’s current X-series SUVs, adding new LED headlights and a redesigned front bumper. A glowing kidney grille also makes its local debut on this model.
Under the skin is an electric driveline “developed to deliver noticeably more power”.
Outputs rise to 300kW/700Nm—up 60kW and 30Nm on the previous xDrive40—cutting the 0–100km/h time to 5.1 seconds.
Battery capacity increases by 30 per cent to 94.8kWh, with a claimed maximum range of 602km. DC fast-charging peaks at 175kW, while AC charging remains at 22kW.
Standard equipment includes a glass roof, wireless phone charging, and an 18-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system. The iX rides on 21-inch alloys as standard; 22-inch and 23-inch wheels are optional at $2,500 and $5,000 respectively.
Options are extensive. The Executive package ($6,500) adds soft-close doors, interior crystal glass, an interior camera, privacy glass, seat ventilation and a seat-heating package. A Bowers & Wilkins audio upgrade with 30 speakers is $9,500. A steering package to assist with low-speed manoeuvres is $3,000, air suspension is $4,000, and a folding tow bar is $2,600.
