Vacuum maker Dreame unveils 1000hp electric hypercar
Chinese consumer electronics company Dreame Technology will unveil a production-intent electric hypercar at CES in Las Vegas on January 7, marking another unusual entry into the electric vehicle market.
The company, best known for high-end robotic vacuum cleaners, says the car will produce more than 1000hp (745kW) and accelerate from 0–100km/h in under two seconds. Those figures would put it in direct competition with established electric performance cars such as the Tesla Model S Plaid and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.
Dreame says the transition from vacuum cleaners to hypercars builds on its expertise in ultra-high-speed electric motors. The digital motors used in its vacuum cleaners can spin at up to 200,000rpm, and the company claims this technology has been scaled up for automotive use.
The hypercar’s drive units will reportedly use a refrigerant-based cooling system to maintain operating temperatures around 15°C, even under heavy load.
Design draws hypercar comparisons
Teaser images from Chinese social media show a low-slung coupe with styling reminiscent of the Bugatti Chiron. Design elements include a pronounced C-shaped side profile, a hidden A-pillar and a large active rear wing.
Dreame says this is a clean-sheet electric vehicle design rather than a styling exercise, developed under the internal codename Starry Sky Plan.
Unlike many concept vehicles shown at CES, Dreame says the hypercar is intended for production. The company claims it has established a dedicated automotive division in Shanghai with more than 1000 staff to develop the car and its underlying technology.
The announcement reflects the continuing expansion of the electric vehicle market beyond traditional automotive manufacturers. While the performance claims and production timeline remain to be verified, Dreame’s entry highlights how rapidly the EV landscape is evolving globally.
Whether the hypercar proves to be a genuine contender or an ambitious technology showcase will become clearer when it is revealed in Las Vegas next week.
