Volkswagen ID.2X crossover teased ahead of Munich debut
Volkswagen has released new teaser images of its upcoming ID.2X electric crossover ahead of its debut at the Munich motor show.
The ID.2X will be a high-riding sibling to the new ID.2 supermini and is set to compete with models like the Renault 4 E-Tech and Ford Puma Gen-E when it goes on sale, likely in the first half of 2026.
The latest teaser sketch shows a more upright front end that draws design cues from both the T-Cross and Amarok ute. At the rear, the concept features an illuminated VW badge and a three-slot design on the C pillar similar to that of the ID. Buzz.
The concept also features prominent wheel arch flares and bumpers designed to give it a wider and more grounded stance compared to the standard ID.2.
This follows an initial blackened teaser image shared in late 2023 that revealed a profile similar to the ID.2all concept, with short overhangs and pumped wheel arches.

Platform sharing across VW Group
The ID.2X will be built on the MEB Entry platform alongside three other small electric vehicles from the Volkswagen Group – the Cupra Raval supermini and Skoda Epiq crossover. All will be produced in Spain.
Volkswagen is also developing an electric city car called the ID. EVERY1 using the same platform, which is expected to go on sale in 2027 as a cost leader in the electric vehicle market.
When it reaches production, the ID.2X will offer customers a choice of 38kWh and 58kWh battery packs. The larger battery pack is expected to deliver around 450km of range per charge, with 10–80% charging times of less than 30 minutes.
No details have been confirmed regarding New Zealand availability or local distributor plans for the ID.2X.
