Volvo Trucks has unveiled a new range of electric heavy-duty trucks, including a long-haul model capable of travelling up to 700km on a single charge.

The new Volvo FH Aero Electric with extended range is designed for long-distance transport and features a new e-axle driveline that allows for increased battery capacity.

Volvo says the truck can be charged from 20% to 80% in around 50 minutes using megawatt charging, enabling charging within mandated driver rest periods.

“We’re really sharpening our offering here. We are broadening it and making electric solutions possible for an even wider range of transport assignments, and also adding a cutting-edge electric truck with a range of up to 700km,” Volvo Trucks president Roger Alm says.

“This means we can fully match the business needs of our customers. It has never been easier to replace diesel trucks with electric ones.”

The company has also introduced next-generation FH, FM and FMX Electric models, offering ranges of up to 470km and aimed at applications including regional distribution, construction and urban logistics.

The updated models feature a new dual-motor driveline with integrated gearbox power take-off, allowing the trucks to power auxiliary equipment such as concrete mixers and refuse units without additional motors.

“The next-generation FH, FM and FMX Electric are packed with new, smart functions, they offer great driver comfort and make zero tailpipe emissions transport available for very wide range of transport assignments,” Alm says.

All new models feature updated gearboxes designed for smoother performance, reduced noise and improved driver comfort.

Volvo says the new trucks will be rolled out to markets from 2026, as part of its strategy to transition towards fossil-free transport using battery electric, fuel cell and renewable fuel technologies.
