Welcome to the EVs and Beyond November magazine
We ponder whether Tesla’s popular and controversial Cybertruck will eventually get to New Zealand (it has some customer orders from here).
Arrival in right-hand drive looks doubtful at this stage – but you never know!
We review the BYD Seal, MG4 X-Power and Europcar’s EV rental the Kia Niro EV Light.
Kiwi electric ferries are getting plenty of attention too.
Wellington’s already got one and Auckland starts getting some next year. EV dealers have generally been very busy, especially with the Clean Car Discount ending on December 31.
They wondering if things will slow down at the start of next year but many expect the surge in EV sales and enquiries to continue.
It’s been a good year for EVs, according to an IDTechEx report. It adds many vehicle segments other than cars are seeing electrification take off too, including vans, trucks, buses, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, microcars and more, along with off-road segments like construction vehicles and trains, marine sectors and aerial vehicles such electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxis.
Speaking of air taxis, we take a look at the Wisk Aero Canterbury eVTOL trials now at a critical stage.
Autonomous vehicles (AVs), also known as driverless vehicles or “robotaxis”, are entering a new phase, especially with COVID-19 pandemic fears easing and public transport returning to favour.
So what about insurance for AVs? We examine that too.
An e-mobility hub has opened in West Auckland (Glen Eden) near its electric train station and there’s a four-wheel electric bike on the horizon.
We check out both in our Micro EV pages.
See what’s happening in the solar field, EV charging at service stations, New Zealand highlights, global advances, Dealer Page offerings and so much more in this issue.
Enjoy the read!
