Z Energy offers half-price EV charging
EV drivers across New Zealand can take advantage of half-price public charging every Tuesday this August, thanks to a new promotion from Z Energy aimed at encouraging more people to try electric.
The offer applies to all of Z’s nationwide fast and ultra-fast public chargers, excluding sessions started using a Z business charge card. The discount is automatically applied at payment, with no codes or coupons required.
With Z’s standard retail charging rate currently sitting at 88 cents per kilowatt-hour, the Tuesday discount cuts that in half to just 44 cents per kWh. For the average EV owner, that could save between $15 and $25 per session — depending on battery size and usage.
The initiative is one of the more aggressive short-term discounts from a major energy provider and comes at a time when public charging costs have become a point of discussion in the EV community. Drivers seeking to charge on a budget now have a clear incentive to plan their top-ups around Tuesdays — especially in higher-cost regions.
While this offer is limited to August 2025, Z has hinted that further EV customer incentives may follow, reflecting the company’s wider strategy to lead the country’s transition to cleaner transport. It’s also a clear sign of increased competition in New Zealand’s public charging market — a trend that could see more flexible pricing and loyalty offers in future.
