First Tesla Model 3 gifted to Elon Musk

The first Tesla Model 3 in production has been gifted as a 46th birthday present to Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk.

Tesla board member Ira Ehrenpreis was the first to put down his deposit, but gave the rights to Musk for the first production vehicle, The Verge reports.

Musk put up photos on Twitter late Saturday night of the black car, the colour being one of the few things customers can decide for their new Model 3.

Other options are being limited to make production easier, some media report.

Musk didn’t give much detail around the first production release,

The first 30 customers are expected to receive their cars at a party around July 28, with production forecast to reach 100 by August and 20,000 by December.

New Model 3 orders are likely to be delivered around 2018 or later.
