Jaecoo’s first seven-seater, the J8 SHS-P plug-in hybrid, will reach New Zealand dealerships this month in a single Summit grade priced at $68,990 plus on-road costs.
The J8 uses Chery’s Super Hybrid System, pairing a 105kW/215Nm 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with three electric motors: two at the front, rated at 75kW and 90kW, and a 175kW unit driving the rear axle. Combined outputs are 315kW and 580Nm, and drive goes through a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission.
Its 34kWh battery gives a claimed 169km of electric range on the NEDC cycle, and Jaecoo quotes a total driving range of up to 1000km. The battery charges at up to 70kW DC.

“Our customers have been asking for a 7-seat SUV and we’re more than happy to meet their demands with the compelling J8 SHS-P,” says Roy Muñoz, chief commercial officer for Omoda Jaecoo Australia and New Zealand. “With a striking design, luxurious interior and advanced hybrid technology, the J8 SHS-P ticks all the right boxes for not just families, but a wide variety of Kiwi buyers.”
