New Mercedes electric concept cars to be shown in Frankfurt

Two electric concept cars will be among a Mercedes-Benz Cars exhibit of about 100 vehicles at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt from September 14-24.

The first will be the electrically powered smart showcar which will be an intelligent solution for shared urban mobility. A fully autonomous car, it will be the first model to comprehensively embody all four pillars of Mercedes-Benz Cars’ corporate strategy CASE – connected, autonomous, shared and electric.

It will have maximum mobility efficiency in and for the urban environment, thanks to systematic development of the car-sharing concept, making the vision of individualised, highly flexible urban public transport a reality, the company says.

The second electric concept will be a Mercedes-Benz world première and will be the first, fully electric EQ concept vehicle within the compact car segment.

With this second model in its new EQ brand Mercedes-Benz will in future also offer compact vehicles with electrically driven power units to consequently make electromobility available for an important target group.

This compact vehicle is expected to follow an all-electric SUV that Mercedes unveiled last year and aims to bring to production in 2019.

A fuel cell plug-in hybrid vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz GLC F-Cell EQ Power, makes its first appearance at the event. It combines a long range (500km in the standard cycle) and short hydrogen fuelling times with local emission-free driving.
