Smart steering from Jaguar
‘Have steering wheel, will travel’ could be the motto for Jaguar Land Rover’s new intelligent and connected steering wheel concept which you can carry with you.
It’s revealing the steering wheel of the future during the inaugural Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest at Central St Martins, University of the Arts London, from September 8-10.
The festival explores the positive role technology is playing in reshaping the automotive industry.
Dubbed “Sayer” after designer Malcolm Sayer who worked for the British marque between 1951 and 1970, this steering wheel concept lives in your home and becomes your trusted companion, Jaguar says.
Sayer is the first voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks. It could signal your membership of Jaguar Land Rover’s on-demand service club, offering either sole ownership or the option of sharing the car with others.
The car maker’s vision is a future of autonomous, connected and electric cars where you don’t own a single car, but instead call upon the vehicle of your choice where and when you need it, with the connected steering wheel possibly the only part of the car you own.
If you need to be at a meeting two hours from home by 8am tomorrow, ask Sayer from the comfort of your living room and it will work out when you get up, when a car needs to autonomously arrive at your door and even advise which parts of the journey you might enjoy driving yourself.
The Al steering wheel is sculpted like a piece of art, so wouldn’t look out of place in the home.
