EV registrations continue climbing
August was another record month for EV registrations.
Actual registrations totalled 4121 – up from 3797 in July.
Adding in NZ Post’s electric Paxter delivery vehicles brings the August total to 4541, Leading the Charge says in its monthly EV Report.
The report tracks how EV registrations are doing against government targets to double the number of EVs annually to reach 64,000 by 2021.
The August target of 3175 was well exceeded – with or without Paxters.
The record is timely too with the evworld event on at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau, Auckland, on September 8 and 9, and International Drive Electric Week from September 9-17.
“These are encouraging figures,” a trustee of The Better NZ Trust Dee West says. “There are many events being planned all over New Zealand for International Drive Electric Week. So we hope many more people will get to ride and drive in EVs this month and experience how great these cars are.”
With all that in mind, perhaps September EV registrations are shaping up to surpass August.
